Joys Of the Jam

We musicians are an odd bunch, aren't we?  We put in countless hours rehearsing, sweating, driving, and finally we land that gig and the amount of pay earned comes to about $.25 per hour - including practice time.  But we do it because we love it and music is a part of our DNA.  We show up to the venues with our vehicles full of gear, load it on to the stage, and do a quick sound check and if all is fine, we wait for our time to go on.  The sets are carefully planned to ensure the audience has the most fun and entertainment possible, creating a festive and happy environment that makes everyone want to dance and drink with one another.

It's all part of the joys of the jam.

The upcoming Rockin' the Box Festival coming up is a great example of some of the commitment that many bands have made to provide fun and entertaining music and all of the bands involved are participating gratis (free).  Each band has a 45 minute set slot and each band will have practiced for hours and hours to ensure that their set is the best it can be.  Again, it's all part of the joys of the jam.

The next time you go see a band, let loose and enjoy yourself.  Musicians love when the audience is into it and enjoying themselves.  We love that stuff.

A New Day, A New Vision

We've come a long way, baby.  Signal 8, formerly known as Mean Machine, has undergone not only a facelift, but a full-tilt, rock & roll, mind-numbing psychological evaluation and guess what?  Here we are!  Here are a few facts about Signal 8 that you should know and this trivia knowledge might help you win cool merch down the line!

Signal 8:  A law enforcement signal for mental patients.  So fitting where we are concerned.

We Are:  Dean Johnson (Vocals/Drums), Ron "Gorilla" Black (Guitar), Jerry Brown/Rick Jackson (Bass/Vocals).

Get your tickets today and come see us!
Where We Play:  We can play bars, clubs, parties, family reunions, festivals, and more.  Our geographical limitations are generally Central Oklahoma.

Music Style:  We're a classic rock band with a bit of flair.  We have some originals that we include in our sets, and the cover songs we perform are done to our liking - and we know you will love them too as others have.  We range from the Rolling Stones to the Ramones to Zakk Wylde to Cheap Trick to ZZ Top to Thin Lizzy to Puddle of Mudd…   You get the picture.

We Are Not:  We are not your typical local band.  We are not passive, but rather are an interactive band.  We are not lazy - when we show up to play, we show up to play and make sure everyone has fun.  We are not pretentious - we know that when we are hired to play, the business hiring us is doing so to increase their profits and our job is to help them do just that.

So, there you have it in a nutshell.  Your Signal 8 Band in Oklahoma City!
